What do I wear for a Summer Black Tie evening posh party?

I have a ballgown but it's more suited to winter as it's burgundy. Should I wear a prom dress or something more formal - light or dark - help! It' not a wedding it's a 50th birthday party in a large home in Oxfordshire.
