How do you change the focal point in a kodak digital camera??

ok so i have a kodak 8.0 digital camera, i dont know how to change the focal length and i think that might be why my pics arent working very well. So i am trying to get a really close up photo with the backround blurred but whenever i try to do this the backround ALWAYS comes out clear and the thing i want clear turns out blurry, how do i fix this?????????????????
