No, you would have been better off telling the truth, that a liberal has no idea of what the political climate contains and that they are ignorant on how to make things better. The only new ideas a liberal has is how to take more and give less. That would have set her straight and made her not only feel better, but been a much more truthful thus gentlemen act.
