Is it safe to plant a garden near a burn pile?

I know ALL kinds of stuff has gone in this burn pile and I don't know if it will contaminate my garden dirt. My husband says I worry to much but I don't know if it will hurt to eat vegetables grown there? My husband plowed this area up and it is the best spot considering avoiding the septic line.
