How is it we can achieve such greatness with others but when it comes to ourselves we say we failed?

Because we are more honest with ourselves than with others. We strive to emulate a perfect mirror for others, but we see ourselves through a gl. The gl might not be totally clear and might be tinted by our ego, but it is less reflective than a mirror that has an external cause.
