Health insurance for gastric byp please help?

I want to join a health insurance fund so that i can have gastric byp surgery but there are so many different companies and so many different types of cover, would just basic hospital cover be ok for this procedure or do i need extras? if anyone has personal experience with this i would really appreciate advice thanks
