If you question is about durability there is no question the hardi-shingle is a more durable product. Other factors to consider are the appearance (most people prefer the real shingle), cost of installation (varies by area but the hardi is more costly) and the weight of the product (hardi-shingles are very heavy and you might need a structural upgrade).
